Fantastic, IF you really like live365 radio and are lucky enough to get it on sale through amazon. Set up is pretty straight forward, particularly if you read the manual with regard to identifying the radio id to activate on the live365 website. Great product overall.

 "Hard to Find" 2009-09-21
By Frank S. Osborne (Milford, MA)
Very good device for it's price. It's not a Bose, but it sounds very good, and it's wireless. I know that Sony has discontinued this item, but when people see and hear mine, they want one, so this is the third one I've bought.I wish you could use both the speakers and the RCA outputs but it's one or the other. The first one I bought direct from Sony and the price was much higher, so if you come across this item on Amazon for $130 buy it before they are all gone.

"Extremely annoying to setup....but worth the hassle" 2009-09-09
By Joseph Walsh
Do yourself a favor and READ ALL OF THE REVIEWS including mine. I am pretty computer savy and this beast had me pulling my hair out for days. I have 3 computers in my house (Laptop/Vista, Desktop/XP3 and a Sony VAIO Desktop/XP3) running thru a Linksys Wireless Router. It WILL NOT WORK on my Gateway running XP3 which is my main computer even though I can see my entire library and even select songs....it just won't play them. It does however work on my laptop and my VAIO machine quite well. I did download the Japanese update (previous post) and searched Sony's site for other updates as well and installed them all. There is a patch for Sony VAIO computers that lets it work with XP3. With all that being said...THIS IS AN AMAZING PRODUCT. I have not fooled around with everything but the internet radio works great and it has no problem playing my 7000 song collection. The sound is really solid as well. Some have compared it to a Bose. I would suggest this if you are comfortable playing around with your system to get it running but it is well worth it in my opinion.

"Light at the end of the tunnel?" 2009-07-26
By looking around (Centennial, Colorado)
I give this item 2 stars only because it was a NIGHTMARE to set it up. When I bought it...3 years ago, it sounded very promising, I set it up using Windows XP and it worked fine. A few months later I decided to switch OS's (and life's at that) by going the Mac OS way - thank God and the heavens for that very wise decision! Not surprising and very unfortunately, this device became absolutely USELESS with my switch to Mac OS - thank God for the engineers and their clever ways, Mac can run Windows (fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your view.). So... I installed an old copy of Windows XP (V.2 - not 3) and downloaded the aforementioned file available in the Japanese Sony site (see other reviews)- after the download - everything looked to be working much nicer - the Mac could send files to the WA-1, the WA-1 could play the files, but when it came to the part of reading the web radios, I got the ubiquitous "Can't play radio station" message (or something along those lines...) so after much research and fidgeting I wrote down all settings and noticed that the "Default Gateway" value was missing (it was all 0's i.e. zeroes) - so, after more research I found a reasonable value (gateway) and tried it - to my surprise, it worked, so now I have some nice Classical music pipping down in my kitchen.

The reason I gave it 2 stars is that it should not take this much effort to set a simple wifi radio on. By the way, I'm a network administrator for an Air Force base, and it took me 3-4 days of research and downloading files, comparing notes, etc, to make this ting work! but, work it did!

Tenacity pays, I guess!

 "Good network player" 2009-02-22
By CLLaw (Houston, TX)
Pros:

1) Does the job that I want: play songs thru IP network.

2) Nice outlook

3) Sound quality is not bad, at least with a mini subwoofer

4) Reasonable price

Cons:

1) The PC M-Crew software is not very user-friendly.

2) Can't display non-English characters

3) not enough functional buttons/keys on the unit itself

"Would have been a great network player" 2009-02-21
By R. Shankar (Austin, TX United States)
The thought of centralizing all your music on a network attached storage and be able to play from anywhere in the house sounds great. Especially being able to play from places like kitchen wirelessly is great.

Setup I use: Linksys NAS200 Storage centrally located with inbuilt media center support.

Comments:

1. If you do purchase one, immediately download the latest firmware and update. It will save you lot of trouble. It seems version 1.0 is more like a functional test version. You would need to connect the player to network and access it through a browser. You really do not need to install mcrew server for this. point the browser to the right IP address of the player and enter "root" and no password to login.Note that the player can be made to display the IP address by using remote(net info)

2. With the latest firmware, you can setup the wireless SSID and key on the player itself. The key information is hard to enter. use forwards and backwards buttons to advance to the next position. use Next and Back buttons to increase or decrease the number/digit. I do not believe this is written anywhere in the manual.

3. Sound quality is great. Price is right. Small, but complete with speakers (unlike logitech and few others, who require that you purchase the whole kit and many of those network receivers require that you hook up speakers, which could be painful in places like kitchen)

Current problems I have:

Central NAS I have has around 500 songs with sub directories for various categories. Also I have the play lists.

1. Player does not show playlists. This player can play playlist from the supplied mcrew software on PC only

2. Player takes forever to hookup to this media server. The media server has around 500 songs and some video files. It takes around 15 mins or so to load. Not sure what is the problem. It is frustrating.

3. Continuing on #1, player does not connect to web radio and such w/o the mcrew server

It would be good if the future network audio players stay away from having the requirement of connecting to a PC. They should instead serve directly from the web and also from any media server(like the one I described here).

May be the next version will be better. I also expect that these players to be more standards based in regards to playlist and such.

 "Great Audio Player" 2008-11-19

I have had this player for over 6 months now and I absolutely love it. It's not hard to setup if you just read the directions. I use it outside, in the garage, and all over the house. Everyone that comes over just loves it.

Impossible to set up, sounds terrible. Get yourself a Squeezebox and a nice little pair of powered speakers.
